The designation of Cuyahoga Valley National Park on October 11, 2000 is a testament to the impact local citizens and political leaders can have when they work together with passion and common purpose to protect America’s heritage. Twenty-two miles of the Cuyahoga River wind and weave through the Cuyahoga Valley, forming the backbone of Cuyahoga Valley National Park and providing an attractive ecosystem for a wide variety of animals. Today it is possible to see river otter, bald eagles, mink, tundra swans and several species of waterfowl, a variety of rare turtles, and several fish including the smallmouth bass and northern pike.
