Designated as our nation’s second national park on September 25, 1890, Sequoia National Park is home to several of the biggest and best of the world’s wonders within its 404,063 acres: Mount Whitney, at 14,494 feet, is the highest point in lower 48 states.  Within the park’s borders there are over 240 known marble caves, including Lilburn Cave; at over 20 miles it is California’s longest cave. The park protects 30 of the remaining 68 groves of the world’s sequoia trees, including the Giant Forest. Within the 1,800 acre Giant Forest stands 5 of the 10 largest trees on Earth, including the General Sherman tree, which stands 275 feet tall with a diameter of 25 feet and weighs in at over 2 million pounds. Sequoia and the adjoining Kings Canyon National Parks offer incredible displays of remote and rugged wilderness for over a million visitors each year.
