Patch Size: 2" x 3"

Originally established as a district of Hawaiʻi National Park on August 1, 1916 under the authorization of President Woodrow Wilson, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park became recognized as a separate national park from Haleakalā in 1961. Today the park displays the results of at least 70 million years of volcanism, migration, and evolution in the Hawaiian Island-Emperor Seamount chain-processes. Created to preserve the natural setting of Kīlauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes, two of the most active volcanoes in the world, the park is also a refuge for the island's native plants and animals and a link to its sacred human past.
