President Truman established the Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park on April 25, 1947, the first and only National Memorial Park ever established. In 1978 the park's designation was changed to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Comprised of three units, the park stretches across 70,416 acres of western North Dakota, abounding with a wide diversity of wildlife, scenic drives and miles of backcountry hiking. Theodore Roosevelt National Park stands as a historical reminder of this area's importance in Theodore Roosevelt's life and the key role it played in fostering his conservation ethics.
